Overview The Perfect Team of Specialists to Treat Children with Neuromuscular Disorders The Pediatric Neuromuscular Disorders Program at Floating Hospital for Children manages care for newborns to young adults who have neuromuscular diseases, such as muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, spina bifida and mitochondrial disorders. Our team members are specialists from pediatric orthopaedics and other pediatric disciplines, including: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (also known as Physiatry) Neurology Rheumatology Genetics and Metabolism Pain Management We’ve found that a team of specialists drawn from multiple disciplines is very effective in caring for children with neuromuscular disorders. It’s especially helpful if your child has a combination of complex health problems that cause pain, restrict mobility or interfere with communications skills. Personalized Care for Children with Common to Complex Diseases Our team is led by Stuart V. Braun, MD, Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedics, who has dedicated his practice, training and research to helping children. He has managed care for thousands of children who have neuromuscular disorders since 2004. Some of the children Dr. Braun has cared for have rare and complex conditions few other doctors have treated. Our orthopaedic specialists design a complete treatment plan just for your child and handpick the right specialists for your child’s care team. For example, to care for a particular child with cerebral palsy, the team may include doctors from Neurology and Physiatry, as well as experts from Physical Therapy, Orthotics and Speech Therapy. All of these specialists and their resources are available here at Floating Hospital. We have close, longstanding relationships with doctors and therapists in these specialties, many of whom work just steps away from our office. Your Child Can Receive Lifetime Care at Floating Hospital If your child’s condition requires long-term care, we can provide personalized treatment over his or her lifetime. That’s because we work closely with our colleagues in Orthopaedics and other disciplines at Tufts Medical Center, which ensures a smooth transition to adult care if your older child needs attention from adult specialists. For your child, our lifelong, team approach can be a source of great confidence and comfort. Our entire team will get to know you and your child. Many families find this reassuring because our doctors, nurses and staff will be familiar faces, and they will fully understand your child’s background.
