Urgent Transport Services When Your Newborn Needs It Most
Sometimes newborns need a higher level of care or more specialized procedure than their own hospital can provide, whether that’s a community hospital or another tertiary Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU). That’s where the Newborn Transport service at Floating Hospital for Children comes in. Staffed by a complete multidisciplinary team of highly trained neonatologists, fellows, nurses and respiratory therapists, our mobile NICU transports critically ill infants from their home hospital to Tufts.
Along the way, your child will receive the same sophisticated therapies available in our 41-bed, Level 3 Boston NICU. We understand the urgency of such situations. That’s why we’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and are ready to leave for transport with just 20 minutes’ notice. If we know in advance that a baby will be born prematurely or will have complications, we even attend the delivery at the home hospital.
Keeping You and Your Family Close Together
Having a critically ill newborn can be incredibly stressful. We try to ease some of that stress by doing whatever we can to keep newborns close to their families. We are the only mobile NICU in Massachusetts to also transport new mothers to our Boston campus, so that they can recover in the same hospital as their infant. The NICU at Tufts Medical Center’s Floating Hospital for Children also offers free parent rooms for mothers and fathers who want to remain close to their baby. And when a child has stabilized, our team transports him or her back to your own community hospital, so your baby can continue to thrive as close to home as possible.
