Calcium Disorders Program

Overview

The Divisions of Pediatric Nephrology and Pediatric Endocrinology at Floating Hospital for Children in Boston work together to diagnose and treat children with calcium disorders, including nephrocalcinosis (which our Division specializes in). These disorders develop when there is too little or too much calcium in the blood or urine, which can affect the body's organs, including the kidneys.

When a child is diagnosed with a calcium disorder, the whole family immediately becomes involved. Because children with calcium disorders are often diagnosed in infancy, it can be a scary time for parents. That's why the experts in the Division of Pediatric Nephrology are there for your family during every step of treatment.

The care plans for children with calcium disorders typically include providing your family with nutritional guidance and working with you to optimize your child's calcium balance to avoid kidney damage. Because family members are such an integral part of the care team, we make sure to provide you with the support that you need to keep your child well.
