The Cleft Lip and Palate Team of doctors at Floating Hospital for Children provides a variety of diagnostic, treatment and follow-up services, including:

  • Specialists to address feeding concerns early in life
  • Early jaw advancement for micrognathia (small jaw) causing breathing and feeding difficulties
  • Plastic surgery to repair cleft lip and/or cleft palate
  • Dental and orthodontic treatments to improve tooth and gum alignment, including nasoalveolar molding therapy (NAM) for babies awaiting cleft lip repair
  • Speech therapy to improve speech skills
  • Speech surgery if felt to be an appropriate addition to speech therapy
  • Hearing tests to check for hearing problems
  • Medical and surgical treatment of chronic ear disease
  • Oral surgery to correct clefts and gaps in the gum line
  • Orthognathic surgery during teenage years to improve the alignment and balance between upper and lower jaws
  • Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) to improve nasal breathing and the external appearance of nose
