For children born with heart defects, expert care by caring professionals
More than a million adults across the U.S. are living with congenital heart defects thanks to dramatic improvements in detection and treatment. With the proper care, children born with congenital heart defects and heart conditions can expect to live full and happy lives. Floating Hospital’s Division of Pediatric Cardiology, conveniently located in downtown Boston, is on the cutting edge of this transformation, with the expertise and latest and best equipment to diagnose and treat a range of congenital heart diseases. But we have more to offer than just stellar care delivered by some of the best doctors in the field. Our pediatric cardiologists are committed to personalized, family-style care not typically found in a major academic medical center. You will find doctors, nurses and technicians dedicated to putting young cardiac patients and their parents at ease, answering questions and going the extra mile to make treatment and care as convenient as possible.
Helping children with the most complex heart conditions
Floating’s pediatric cardiologists are equipped to detect and treat a broad array of congenital heart defects in children. These include structural defects in the heart’s chamber walls, valves or arteries. While many cases are now identified in utero or right after birth, some are not detected until a situation arises, such as an infant turning blue, child fainting, has heart palpitations or experiences shortness of breath. Eight children per thousand are born with a heart defect while one to two in a thousand will require surgery or intervention in the first year of life. Our pediatric cardiologists are ready with the latest procedures, including less invasive treatments using catheter-based approaches.
A lifetime commitment
Even after treatment, children with heart defects will need monitoring and follow-up care, sometimes for the rest of their lives. This requires having a team you can rely on for the long-term. Floating’s Congenital Heart Disease Program leverages the full resources of a major academic medical center, including close collaboration with specialists in Adult Congenital Heart Disease Clinic at Tufts Medical Center. This allows for the seamless transition of pediatric patients to the adult cardiology experts at Tufts MC when they become young adults.
