Giving to the International Adoption Clinic
Your gift can help support the care and development of institutionalized and post-institutionalized children in the and abroad:
Support our research on the educational and behavioral outcome of internationally adopted children. This unique research will help determine the prevalence of problems in this population and identify risks contributing to long-term difficulties.
We hope to assemble information that will help guide pre-adoptive parents and promote earlier identification and care of children with learning, social, and emotional difficulties.
We also wish to use this research to improve the well being of children in orphanages in various countries.
Support humanitarian outreach via our Big Sister program in . This project began in 2001, in collaboration with MAPS adoption agency, to support orphanage staff, improve lives of children most in need, and determine if individualized attention through partnering the most vulnerable children with "big sisters" would improve outcomes.
In 2002, our return trip revealed incredible "catch-up" in physical growth, social, and play skills among children receiving 2 hours' daily attention from their sister.
Benefits: Big Sisters gained training, supervision, and income. Orphanage staff had more time with other children in their care. The community learned about this orphanage through Big Sisters.
Many of the program's children were adopted; some returned to birth families. This was an amazing surprise, as children selected had previously been considered less "eligible" for adoption.
This program continues in and is being spread to nearby cities in the region. Your gift of $100 supports a Big Sister for 3 months; $200, for 6 months.
