Pre-Adoptive Seminar

The International Adoption Clinic’s Seminar for Pre-adoptive Parents is your chance to gain awareness of the common circumstances of children offered for international and domestic adoption. You will also learn about the medical, developmental, short and long-term issues we have encountered in our years of experience with adopted children.
The seminar covers:
- Medical and health issues pre-adoptive parents need to know about (in utero drug exposure, parasites, hepatitis, HIV, syphilis, fetal alcohol syndrome and growth).
- Pre-adoptive medical and developmental assessments: how we assess referrals and videos.
- Child development and delays in adoptees and long-term effects of institutionalization on language, behavior, and learning.
- Compilation of articles and information on domestic and internationally adopted children.
Also included:
- Extensive handouts
- Hague parent education certificate for 3 hours
- Available to purchase Dr. Laurie Miller's Handbook for International Adoption Medicine (Oxford University Press, 2005) or Encyclopedia of Adoption (Facts on File, 2006). Proceeds support the Big Sisters Program in Russia and Ukraine.
