Asthma Center for Children

We are a multidisciplinary program focused on the diagnosis, care and management of children with asthma as well as the provision of support services for their families. We integrate comprehensive patient care with patient education, including the development of language, reading level and culturally sensitive educational materials. Methods to improve and enhance successful adherence to inhalation therapy programs are incorporated into the individual patient care plan.

 

We utilize outpatient monitoring with a full array of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities including:

 

• Pulmonary function testing
• Provocation studies of airway reactivity and bronchodilator responsivity
• Pilocarpine iontophoresis (sweat testing)
• Allergy skin testing/desensitization

Patients and their families are offered psychological and social service support where desired and beneficial. We work with the child’s physician to minimize the impact of the disease on the patient and provide continuity of care.
