MASSACHUSETTS CHILD PSYCHIATRY ACCESS PROGRAM (MCPAP)
Tufts Medical Center and the Floating Hospital for Children, in conjunction with Children's Hospital Boston (CHB), is funded by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, through the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership, to provide services to assist pediatric primary care providers (PCP) in the community who treat children and adolescents.
The goal of Tufts/Floating Hospital and CHB is to provide better telephonic and/or face-to-face access to PCPs in the Metro Boston geographical area to child psychiatry diagnostic/assessment and consultation services. Additional services may include referral to aftercare and transitional treatment services as indicated. MCPAP services are available to all children and families who are referred through their PCP. MCPAP does not provide emergency or routine outpatient services but may facilitate access to these services when necessary.
The program operates Monday-Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM. The program is staffed by child psychiatrists, a licensed independent clinical social worker, psychiatric clinical nurse specialist, and care coordinator. Services offered include:
-
Telephonic consultation to PCP
-
Assistance from Care Coordinator to facilitate accessing behavioral health services
-
Referral to the MCPAP social worker for assessment, and/or telephonic or face-to-face transitional support
-
Referral to MCPAP child psychiatrist for psychopharmacolgical or diagnostic consultation
