A fully equipped and specially trained transport team is available 24 hours a day for ambulance or helicopter transport of critically ill infants. As Boston's preeminent advocate of regionalized neonatal care, the Division maintains close communication with referring hospitals and physicians, emphasizing prompt return transport of infants no longer requiring tertiary intensive care.
The Division of Newborn Medicine also has direct affiliations with several Level II special care nurseries in the greater Boston area, providing an enhanced level of care in the community, and facilitating the transition of patients between the tertiary and local hospital settings.
