Nursing

What is a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner?
A Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse specializing in the care of newborn infants. NNPs are registered nurses with experience and expertise in neonatal care, who have obtained a graduate degree in nursing with an emphasis in managing the health care needs of newborn infants and their families.
In collaboration with neonatalogists and other pediatric physicians, NNPs make independent decisions in the assessment, evaluation, diagnosis and management of health care for neonates and infants. In addition, NNPs supervise high risk newborn transports, and select and perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
The Neonatal Nurse Practitioners at Floating Hospital for Children all hold Master of Science degrees in Nursing, specializing in Neonatal Critical Care. They play an important collaborative role in the care of infants in our Neonatal ICU, and provide a variety of educational services to hospitals in the greater Boston metropolitan area and beyond.
