Child Passenger Safety Technical Update |
|
On June 29, 2010, Safe Kids, Boston and KPTI hosted a conference with Sarah Tilton of Britax Child Safety, Inc. Sarah discussed topics such as LATCH, car seat requirements, new product features, and what's new for airlines and ambulances. Sixty attendees from all around Boston enjoyed a full day of child passenger safety information including lunch in the Tufts Medical Center's Wolff Auditorium. |

Thanks to everyone who attended and volunteered at the KPTI Open House! |

We welcomed 350 Kiwanians on Saturday, December 5th for the annual KPTI Open House! It was a great turnout! Our speakers were Patty Carlson from the Brain Injury Association of MA and the EMTs from EasCare Ambulance Co. who gave a demonstration of what they do at the scene of an emergency.
Key clubs and Circle K clubs presented donations of blankets, hospital dolls, school and art supplies and patient family tote bags. The Kiwanians of Division Five presented the hospital with a beautiful stained glass panel of the Kiwanis logo made by David Joy for the Kiwanis Family Waiting area at the Floating Hospital. Thanks to the Circle K and Key club District Boards for helping with the tours and raffle. Our patients and their families greatly appreciate all that you do for them.

Window Falls Prevention Roundtable |

On March 10, 2009 KPTI hosted the Window Falls Prevention Roundtable, presented by the Boston Public Health Commission. Erin Christiansen, Director of the BPHC's Childhood Injury Prevention Program led an informative discussion on the best policies for education and implementation of window falls prevention in the Boston area as well as throughout Massachusetts.
Dr. Gilchrist opened the half-day conference which was attended by representatives from the National Safety Council, the Boston "Kid's Can't Fly" program, five MA hospitals, MA Department of Children and Families, Boston Emergency Medical Services, commercial and city housing, window guard manufacturers, the Boston Deputy Fire Chief and parents whose children recently suffered window falls. |

Thanks to members of the Manchester HS West Key Club, the Floating Hospital's Ace Bailey playroom now has a new collection of DVD's for patients of all ages. A great way to pass the time and reduce stress for youngsters who are confined to bed or with limited mobility and their families.

| KPTI and Tufts Medical Center attended the 19th Bruin's Wives Carnival at the TD Bank North Garden on January 4, 2009 to hand out safety material to Bruin's fans and other attendees. |

KPTI Open House |

| Thanks to the over 255 Kiwanians who attended this years open house. It was a successful day and we were glad to welcome many who came from areas of New England hit hard by storms and electircal blackouts. |
| Speakers included Dr. Nick Guerina, who talked about the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Floating Hospital for Children and Mr. Ron Bersani who was instrumental in the passage of Melanie's Law, named after his granddaughter who was killed by a drunk driver in 2003. |
| Tours were conducted of the trauma units and the helipad, lunch was enjoyed and Paul Bernard was announced as the winner of the Spinoza Bear raffle. |
