Child Passenger Safety Technical Update

On June 29, 2010, Safe Kids, Boston and KPTI hosted a conference with Sarah Tilton of Britax Child Safety, Inc. Sarah discussed topics such as LATCH, car seat requirements, new product features, and what's new for airlines and ambulances. Sixty attendees from all around Boston enjoyed a full day of child passenger safety information including lunch in the Tufts Medical Center's Wolff Auditorium.

Key Club Visit

Members of the Marshfield, MA Key Club visited KPTI on January 14, 2010 to deliver bracelets they made for our pediatric patients. Thanks to everyone who attended and volunteered at the KPTI Open House!

We welcomed 350 Kiwanians on Saturday, December 5th for the annual KPTI Open House! It was a great turnout! Our speakers were Patty Carlson from the Brain Injury Association of MA and the EMTs from EasCare Ambulance Co. who gave a demonstration of what they do at the scene of an emergency. Key clubs and Circle K clubs presented donations of blankets, hospital dolls, school and art supplies and patient family tote bags. The Kiwanians of Division Five presented the hospital with a beautiful stained glass panel of the Kiwanis logo made by David Joy for the Kiwanis Family Waiting area at the Floating Hospital. Thanks to the Circle K and Key club District Boards for helping with the tours and raffle. Our patients and their families greatly appreciate all that you do for them. We hope everyone had a great time and we look forward to seeing you all next year!

American Pediatric Surgical Association (APSA)

KPTI  hosted the Seventh International Conference on Pediatric Trauma, a one-day symposium at the 40th Annual Meeting of APSA, on May 27, 2009 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. More information here.

Key Club Convention

The annual Key Club Convention is April 3rd through April 5th, 2009 in Springfield, MA. Jon Freeman will attend to answer questions and thank our outstanding Key Club supporters!

Window Falls Prevention Roundtable

On March 10, 2009 KPTI hosted the Window Falls Prevention Roundtable, presented by the Boston Public Health Commission. Erin Christiansen, Director of the BPHC's Childhood Injury Prevention Program led an informative discussion on the best policies for education and implementation of window falls prevention in the Boston area as well as throughout Massachusetts. Dr. Gilchrist opened the half-day conference which was attended by representatives from the National Safety Council, the Boston "Kid's Can't Fly" program, five MA hospitals, MA Department of Children and Families, Boston Emergency Medical Services, commercial and city housing, window guard manufacturers, the Boston Deputy Fire Chief and parents whose children recently suffered window falls.

Marshfield High School Key Club

Members of the Marshfield High School Key Club of Marshfield, MA visited the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute at Floating Hospital for Children/Tufts Medical Center on Tuesday January 20, 2009. Pembroke Academy Key Club

Members of the Pembroke Academy Key Club of Pembroke, MA visited KPTI on February 26, 2009 with toys and fleece blankets for trauma patients at the Floating Hospital. Piscataquis Community High School Key Club

The Piscataquis Community HS Key Club of Guilford, ME sent art supplies they collected for patients at the Floating Hospital. These items are greatly appreciated by our young patients during their stay at the hospital. THANK YOU PCHS KEY CLUB!

Manchester High School West Key Club

Thanks to members of the Manchester HS West Key Club, the Floating Hospital's Ace Bailey playroom now has a new collection of DVD's for patients of all ages. A great way to pass the time and reduce stress for youngsters who are confined to bed or with limited mobility and their families. THANK YOU MHSW KEY CLUB!

Boston Bruin's Wives Carnival

KPTI and Tufts Medical Center attended the 19th Bruin's Wives Carnival at the TD Bank North Garden on January 4, 2009 to hand out safety material to Bruin's fans and other attendees.

KPTI Open House

Saturday, December 13, 2008

Thanks to the over 255 Kiwanians who attended this years open house. It was a successful day and we were glad to welcome many who came from areas of New England hit hard by storms and electircal blackouts.

Speakers included Dr. Nick Guerina, who talked about the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Floating Hospital for Children and Mr. Ron Bersani who was instrumental in the passage of Melanie's Law, named after his granddaughter who was killed by a drunk driver in 2003.

Tours were conducted of the trauma units and the helipad, lunch was enjoyed and Paul Bernard was announced as the winner of the Spinoza Bear raffle.

90th Annual New England District Convention

August 22-24, 2008

On Friday, KPTI will present a workshop about safety programs and operations. At the Foundation Luncheon on Saturday, a former KPTI patient and his family will talk about the experience they had with trauma one year ago.

National Conference on Highway Safety Priorities

April 12 - 15, 2008 in Portland Oregon

Lifesavers is the premier national highway safety meeting in the United States dedicated to reducing the tragic toll of deaths and injuries on our nation's roadways. The conference addresses a wide range of safety topics, from child passenger safety and occupant protection to roadway and vehicle safety and technology. It offers the latest information on advances in highway safety, highlights successful programs and draws attention to emerging safety issues. KPTI Program Specialist Jon Freeman will be attending.
