Infectious Diseases

The Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease offers complete diagnostic and therapeutic care for children with infections including both common and uncommon community acquired illnesses such as:
- Lyme disease
- Skin and soft tissue infections due to staphylococcus (both methicillin resistant and susceptible strains) and streptococcus
- Recurrent tonsil, sinus or middle ear infections
- Bone and joint infections
- Pneumonia, including tuberculosis
- Meningitis
- Infections localized to lymph nodes
- Kawasaki disease
- Prolonged, recurrent or periodic fevers

Consultation is provided for the management of infections in immunocompromised children due to underlying illnesses such as:
- Cancer
- Bone marrow or solid organ transplantation
- Cystic fibrosis
- Sickle cell disease
In addition, consultation is offered for children who may be immunocompromised due to therapy used to treat certain diseases such as may occur with:
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Rheumatic disorders
- Long-term central catheter placement
