When you turn to Floating Hospital for Children for the care of childhood blood disorders and cancers, you’ll know the peace of mind that comes as a result of an exceptional team of specialists who treat these complex diseases.
Ours is a relatively small program, which engenders a level of intimacy, agility and close collaboration that you simply will not find at larger hospitals. At the same time, the clinical expertise that resides here is extensive, particularly in the areas of neuro-oncology and pediatric benign hematology. We offer the newest and most effective treatments currently available – including blood and marrow transplantation, minimally invasive options for brain tumors and antiangiogenic therapies – along with a track record of excellent outcomes.
Equally important, we are a respected research center and a full institutional member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), a prestigious national clinical consortium affiliated with the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Our team also is represented on the Brain Tumor Core Committee, a select group of 20 national experts involved in treatment development for children with central nervous system tumors. Through these affiliations as well as partnerships with industry and the research of our own physician-scientists, you have access to the most up-to-date knowledge of pediatric cancers and blood disorders as well as novel treatment options through clinical trials.
In addition to outstanding clinical care and leading-edge research, our program is distinguished by the depth and breadth of its award-winning patient and family support resources. A diagnosis of childhood cancer or hematologic disease places a tremendous physical, emotional, financial and logistical burden on young patients and their families. We have in place an array of services to help families cope during this most challenging time.
Bottom line, our care is built on a simple philosophy: to treat each child as if he or she was our own. In what is likely a child’s greatest battle, we are tenacious fighters on their behalf and tender caregivers in meeting their needs and those of their families.

Our strength is in providing comprehensive hematology and oncology services by integrating specialists in all aspects of care for children with blood disorders and cancer. Our team of outstanding pediatric hematologists and oncologists is complemented by experts in pediatric surgical oncology, pediatric neurosurgery, radiation oncology, genetic testing, pharmacology, nutrition, child development, psychological counseling and more – giving patients all the specialty expertise they need, all in one place.
Cutting-Edge Research
In addition to caring for patients and their families, our physicians are involved in truly cutting-edge research on childhood cancers and hematologic disorders. Our work has contributed to the current understanding of these diseases and continues to do so – giving patients access to the latest advances as well as novel treatment options that may not be available anywhere else.
Patient- and Family-Centered Care
When a child is diagnosed with cancer or hematologic disease, it affects the entire family, which is why we have devoted significant resources to help parents and siblings as well as the patients themselves. From support groups to Child Life Specialists to a school reentry program, we offer an array of outstanding patient and family support services that provide comfort to families.
A Collaborative Approach
Collaboration is Tufts Medical Center’s hallmark. It’s how we work with each other, with national research cooperatives, with the physicians who refer patients to us, and with the patients and families we are privileged to care for. Patients are seen without delay, and they will receive highly personalized care in a team-oriented environment.
An Expanding Community Presence
Through a growing network of community hospital partnerships, Floating Hospital gives patients and families outside Boston convenient access to our subspecialty services in a familiar, close-to-home setting. Our Pediatric Hematology/Oncology physicians currently see patients at satellite clinics in Chelmsford and Fall River, enabling children who require diagnostic services or outpatient care to receive it without traveling into Boston.
