Patient Rights

The staff at Floating Hospital for Children is committed to providing your child with excellent medical care and delivering this care with respect for your child’s individuality and dignity. We believe that effective patient care begins with the establishment of a partnership between the patient, his or her family and the staff at the Floating Hospital.
The following documents and regulations explain your child’s rights and responsibilities while he or she is a patient at the Floating Hospital for Children.
HIPPA (Health Information Privacy Practices Authorization) describes how medical information about you may be used and disclosed and how you can get access to this information.
A Health Care Proxy authorizes a family member or other person to act as your child’s health care agent and make health care decisions on your child’s behalf.
A Patients’ Bill of Rights was signed into law in 1979 by the Massachusetts legislature. (Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 111, Section 70E). Copies of the Massachusetts Patients’ Bill of Rights are also posted at entrances to the Floating Hospital and are available in the Admitting Department on the first floor of the Proger Building.
