Applicants must register with the National Resident Matching Program for PL-1 positions. We require an application using ERAS (the electronic system which allows applicants to transmit all application materials directly to our program via the Internet), a personal statement, three letters of recommendation (at least one from a pediatrician), a Dean's letter, a transcript of your medical school record, copies of USMLE scores or dates you plan to take them, and a photograph to help us identify you.
International/Foreign, Canadian and osteopathic medical graduates should consult ERAS for application instructions.
Please note:
- We sponsor only J-1 visas
- All international medical school graduates applying to our program must complete one year of clinical experience in the United States or Canada, and be ECFMG certified by the start of residency.
- We do not have USMLE score requirements, nor do we have a cut off for number of years since graduating medical school. We consider each application as a whole.
- Invitations to interview will be sent after October 1.
Scheduling an Interview
After the applications are reviewed, many applicants will be invited by email to interview. The large number of applications precludes us from offering interviews to all applicants. Interviews are held in November, December and January. A choice of dates is available and every effort is made to accommodate applicants.
The Interview Day
You will be welcomed by the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics and the Program Director. "Morning Report" follows with housestaff and faculty, to allow you to become part of our daily case discussion. Each applicant will then have two interviews of approximately one half hour each, one with a member of the Intern Selection Committee and a second with one other physician. Residents will then bring you on an exciting tour of the hospital. To end the day, faculty and housestaff join the applicants for lunch to discuss the program and life as a resident in Boston -- all in a relaxed and warm atmosphere. The residents also organize an unofficial evening get together for prospective students to meet our residents in an even more candid and fun atmosphere.
