When a referring physician has a sick pediatric patient in need of immediate specialty care or admission, information and help admitting that child needs to happen right away. That’s why we created our new Hospitalist Program.
One call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week connects the referring physician to our skilled and caring hospitalists who will coordinate all the details for the physician from there. In addition, once the patient arrives, our hospitalists will coordinate care with any needed sub-specialists.
Our hospitalists stay in contact with the referring physician. We are the referring physician's partner in care throughout the entire process. Our hospitalist calls the referring physician the day after the admission and then communicates with him or her every day of the stay. At the discharge, the details about the child’s stay and health status are faxed to the referring physician.
Parents also find great comfort in knowing one compassionate and skilled physician is overseeing and coordinating all elements of the child's care. In addition, at Floating Hospital for Children, we believe the input of the family and all involved caregivers is critical. Each day all these individuals come together to discuss the child’s status, progress and needed actions. We call it Family Rounding and the input of the parents is very important in this discussion.
