Volunteering at Tufts Medical Center offers the pride of the past and the excitement of the future. Founded in 1796 as the Boston Dispensary it was joined over the years by other medical institutions and The Floating Hospital for Children to become Tufts Medical Center in 1965. It is the principal teaching hospital of Tufts University School of Medicine, and offers comprehensive care for adults and children in every medical specialty. Tufts Medical Center is a world leader in medical care yet has the spirit of a community hospital; the perfect place to volunteer.
ASSIGNMENTS:

We accept as volunteers, those who would like to serve Tufts Medical Center without compensation or educational credit of any kind.

Volunteers are placed throughout the hospital and are assigned based on matches of their interests, capabilities and time availability as well as the needs of the departments.
- The Volunteer’s role is primarily to assist the various staffs provide a positive patient experience. They do this in many ways such as being Patient Visitors and Ambassador/Escorts.
- We welcome volunteers who can commit to a regular time shift each week. Most volunteer assignments are available mornings and afternoons, Monday through Friday as well as some limited evening and weekend openings. We ask that you be available to volunteer a minimum of one shift per week and complete at least 40 hours of total service.
TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER:
- Complete and submit the online application. If not contacted in two weeks, call 617-636-1377 to learn the status of your application.
- Once a volunteer assignment has been decided upon, you will be asked to visit the Volunteer Office (Proger 7) to complete the required CORI form (have a photo ID available for copying) and receive instructions for having your immunization records reviewed by our Employee Health office. Once these have been completed you will be asked to attend an orientation and then be given instructions to get your hospital ID. When all of these steps have been completed, you will be ready to start your volunteer service.
- We have openings for a limited number of High School volunteers (16 and over) on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday between 3 and 5 pm and all day during the summer. Please call 617-636-1377 to see if openings exist. High School volunteers do not need a CORI check and only need to show evidence of a recent TB screening. Orientation and ID will be given the day you start.
