Dr. Anish Bhardwaj named
Tufts Medical Center’s Neurologist-in-Chief

After a national search, Tufts Medical Center is extremely pleased to announce that Anish Bhardwaj, MD, FAHA, FCCM will be joining us as the Neurologist-in-Chief of Tufts Medical Center and as Chairman of Neurology for Tufts University School of Medicine in August.

Dr. Bhardwaj comes to the Medical Center with a distinguished background in academic and clinical neurology. An acknowledged national and international expert in Neurocritical Care and Stroke, he is the author of more than 130 publications including original peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, editorials, reviews and 4 books. His research focuses on methods for protecting the brain after acute stroke among other important areas for which he has received substantial and ongoing NIH research funding.

He serves on editorial boards of several scientific peer-reviewed journals and study sections of the NIH and the American Heart Association. He is an elected fellow of the Stroke Council of the American Heart Association and American College of Critical Care Medicine. 

He has developed major neurocritical care services and will prove to be a great leader in growing the Medical Center’s Neurology services and research initiatives. In addition, he will play a major role in expanding our Neurosciences Clinical and Research Program in collaboration with Neurosurgery, Psychiatry and Tufts University School of Medicine’s Department of Neurosciences.

Bhardwaj joins us from the Department of Neurology at Oregon Health & Science University where he serves as Professor and Vice Chairman of Neurology, Professor of Neurological Surgery and Anesthesiology/Peri-Operative Medicine, Director of the Neurosciences Critical Care Program and Neuroscience Stroke Laboratory. He previously served as Vice Chairman of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he was Co-Director of the Neurosciences Critical Care Division and Director of the Neurosciences Critical Care Fellowship Training Program.

A special thanks also goes to Tom Sabin, MD who led the Neurology Department, along with his dedicated staff, during the national search.
